After a leisurely morning, Alec and I hopped on a chicken bus bound for Guatemala City, or as the driver kept screaming every ten seconds: “Guaté! Guaté! Guaté!”

At the TicaBus station, while we waited for our departure, we had a fitting final meal in Guatemala: Pepian.

The bus was big and plenty comfortable, helped a bit by the fact that it was only about half full. The ride was smooth and there were no border issues. If there was any problem with the bus ride it was that during the first movie they showed, Life Is Beautiful, the subtitles were in Spanish.

When we arrived in San Salvador, it reminded me of a suburban commercial strip in Anytown, USA. It’s helped by the fact they use the dollar here. I felt an odd sense of nostalgia as I ordered a spicy chicken combo from the Wendys near our hotel.

We’re off at 5am tomorrow so it’ll be a quiet night.
