I awoke at 9 feeling very refreshed. I don’t remember sleeping so late in the last two weeks. The day looked beautiful with clear blue skies.

I walked around ‘town’ (El Remate is not so much a town as a slightly higher concentration of hotels along the road) trying to find a good spot to sit by the lake and relax.

I found a restaurant that offered free wifi and a gorgeous lakeside view. I ordered the desayuno tipico (eggs, beans, plantains, cheese and tortillas) and caught up on email and such. The same restaurant also sells bus tickets, which will come in handy tomorrow (I had no idea how I was going to move on).

Back at the hostel, I bumped into Ana, the hostess, who shot right back into the Spanish lesson from last night. I think I’m starting to become more
comfortable with the language. Either that, or Ana slowed down to my speed.

The thunderstorms did eventually come, and made me reconsider my plan to go kayaking on the lake. Instead, I walked around the lake, through some paths into the hills. It really is beautiful out here.
