I’m sitting in front of my TV, watching the coverage of the Democratic National Convention.  For the first time in a long time, I’m actually excited about American politics.

I am not shy about my political leanings.  I am a bleeding heart liberal.  I absolutely hate the current presidential administration.  The past two national elections have been nothing short of devastating.  This country over the past 8 years, has taken huge strides backwards.  In Economy.  In Education.  In Civil Liberties.  In International Relations.

We need a change.  We need to ask for Peace.  We need to ask for our Civil Liberties.  We need to ask for fair and affordable healthcare.  In essence, we need to ask for a change so we can get back to our basic Human Rights.

In November, we can cast a vote for John McCain.  We can stick with the policies that put us where we are today.  Or, we can vote for Barack Obama.    We can say that it’s time to try something new.

I don’t honestly think that Barack Obama can fix everything. He may in fact, not fix anything.  But I do know that the choices being made in the White House now go against almost every instinct I have.  WE NEED A CHANGE.

Up until now, this post has said nothing positive about Barack Obama except for the fact that he ISN’T George Bush or John McCain.  However, I have spent a significant amount of time at both John McCain’s and Barack Obama’s websites.  I am impressed with how up-front and available the policies of both candidates are shown on the sites (and I wonder how voters learned as much about the candidates in the pre-internet world).  Barack Obama’s stance on almost every issue goes directly in line with my thoughts.

Also, on a purely aesthetic note, Obama’s site is far better.  Slick!

I know politics aren’t for everyone, but it affects us all.  Sorry for the rant.

GOBAMA!

Obama Address Live Comments

Energy policy – Mostly good.  Though I hate the term “Clean Coal.”  No such thing.

Education – Really good.  Higher wages for teachers.  College education grants for all Americans.

Healthcare – Affordable, good health benefits for all.  I’ve heard this before.  Lets hear some actual plans for this.

Iraq – Wants to actually set a time frame to get our troops out.  What a novel idea, 5 years after the mission was accomplished.

Debate – BRING IT ON.

Overall – This man is an orator.  He exudes charisma.  In comparison to the bumbling everyman we’ve been listening to for years, this is an absolute breath of fresh air.
