After my third walk up the island (this time, to steal wifi), I ran into my old buddies Liam, Jessy and Angus. They had been on Caye Caulker (and loving it) since the day we parted ways in Tulum.

We walked together to the bar at the north end of the island, the split, and got caught up. The view at sunset was amazing and for an hour after we watched an amazing lightning storm well off to the west. A few Belikins (the national brew of Belize, and a pretty damn tasty one at that) later and we were all ready for some grub. We walked by The Sports Bar (no affiliation with the place in Binghamton) and were brought in by the cook, Charles. He was grilling up fresh lobster tail outside and it was too enticing to pass up. It didn’t hurt that he gave us each a free rum punch.

We noticed a commotion at their hostel, Tina’s Backpackers (very cool place incidentally, and if I had known beforehand, I’d have booked a bed there). We walked up to see what was going on and saw that there was a Ms. Caye Caulker competition going on at the basketball courts next door. We had a perfect spot to watch from their balcony. The competition didn’t do much to hold our attention (there were only two contestants) but enough people were up there watching to make it fun anyway.

I sat on their roof and stargazed for a while, before getting tired and heading back to my place. Away from the lights of the north end of the island, the stars were even more breathtaking from my place. So I went out to the dock and stared up for a while before finally heading in to bed.
